Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios launched a new playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough format but features several key changes:
In short, the playlist delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, since it provides additional choices for gamers seeking alternative ways to have fun with the game. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 fans are upset.
"People want real players. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," reads a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," says a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," while someone else details everything they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this game 24/7. Let them strike a balance," adds another. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
All that said, players have constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase wait times more extended for other modes due to the large amount of options currently available. Similarly, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to remove bot farms from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base meeting them halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user describes this mode as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
If the development team has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
