Chiefs Confirm Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete

The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and had been in contact with the league office.

The organization omitted the name of Rice specifically in their statement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Instagram

The woman, who likewise did not name Rice by name, posted a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She stated the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.

Official Complaints Currently Unavailable

No police reports were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.

Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles

Rice was absent for the initial part of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people injured. He was given a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.

Statistically, he finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
