The child of ex- South African President Zuma has entered a not guilty plea to terrorism-related accusations at the commencement of her legal proceedings in the port city of Durban.
The defendant, 43, is being charged over remarks she posted on digital networks four years ago during deadly demonstrations in South Africa that came after the apprehension of her dad.
A seven-day period of disorder in various areas of the country in the summer of 2021, including looting and fire-setting, left at least 300 dead and caused damage worth an approximate 2.8 billion dollars (£2.2 billion).
The defendant has been alleged of fuelling this turmoil and faces allegations of encouragement to commit terror-related activities and public disorder.
The protests were focused in the regions of the Gauteng province and KwaZulu-Natal and came after the ex-leader's detention for defying a judicial ruling to testify at an investigation into claims of corruption while he was in power.
Ms Zuma-Sambudla has repeatedly refuted the charges against her, with her legal representative earlier calling the government's case as insufficient.
She has also frequently said the accusations against her were an attempt to settle political scores with her father after he established his own political party and competed against the ANC.
This was echoed by the Jacob Zuma foundation, which claimed the legal matter was an "abuse of power" and a "systematic campaign" of "political and family-related persecution" against the previous head of state and his family.
A handful of followers from her party, the political party, appeared outside the judicial building, while her parent and other organization officials attended the proceedings inside.
The defendant's representatives has stated that the testimony presented by prosecutors is inadequate and does not have concrete evidence for a conviction.
The trial continues as the prosecution and defense present their evidence before the judge in what is expected to be a closely watched judicial process with significant political consequences for South Africa.
