Fast bowler Atkinson Exacerbates England's Injury Problems.

'Major setback' for the touring side after Atkinson leaves the field suffering a hamstring problem.

Gus Atkinson further complicated England's injury problems upon exiting the ground on the second morning in the Melbourne Test in the Ashes series.

The right-arm seamer felt a problem in his hamstring after the final ball of the fourth over during the morning session.

The touring camp stated Atkinson reported "discomfort" and would spend time on the sidelines to undergo evaluation "over the next few hours".

The final Test of the tour in Sydney begins on Sunday, 4 January.

The visitors have been without key quicks one seamer due to knee trouble and another paceman with an abdominal strain on this Ashes tour.

Matthew Fisher was added to the party as injury reinforcement.

The seamer had a tough time early in the series, taking just three wickets.

He was dropped for the Adelaide match, then recalled for the Boxing Day match to fill the void.

Surrey's Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, taking two wickets during the host's first knock, and scoring 28 runs with the bat among just a trio of teammates who passed ten runs.

After bowling one over at the end of day one, he resumed for the second day's play and had nightwatchman edging to the keeper.

However, on the final ball of the fifth over, he bowled a variation to the batsman and promptly felt for his hamstring.

Gus Atkinson was recalled for the Melbourne match having missed the Adelaide game.
