The Scottish side kicked off their Champions Cup journey in perfect fashion with a crucial four-try win on the road against Sale Sharks.
With the elements at their backs, Sale started strongly and raced to a fourteen-point lead within the first quarter. Tries from the Sale skipper and teenage debutant Ollie Davies gave them early control.
But, the visitors fought back admirably with two tries prior to the interval. Hooker Gregor Hiddleston and flanker Rory Darge both crossed to reduce the deficit.
Additional second-half scores from captain Kyle Steyn and Stafford McDowall pushed Glasgow's advantage to twelve points. Marius Louw's reply for Sale promised a tense finish, but the visitors held firm to claim a major opening victory.
The match began with a bang as skipper Van Rhyn drove over from close range after just two minutes. An early knock to midfielder Ma'asi-White brought 19-year-old Davies into the fray for his cup debut.
Davies made an immediate impact. Switching to fly-half, he took a smart support line to take an offload and score, making Sale's advantage.
Against difficult conditions, Glasgow used their forward power to get back into the game. A powerful line-out drive was finished by hooker Hiddleston. Prior to the break, Darge forced his way over, with Hastings' conversion making it a two-point game at half-time.
Glasgow took the advantage for the first occasion early in the restart. A misjudged kick was collected by No. 8 Dempsey, who set up skipper Kyle Steyn to break a tackle and race away to the try-line.
With in the driving seat, they secured the bonus point when McDowall powered past a tackle to score his 100th appearance for the team. That score capped a sequence of 26 unanswered points.
The hosts found a lifeline when Marius Louw showed neat footwork to score. The conversion made it a five-point game with time left.
One last opportunity came for Sale from a line-out in the 22, but they lost the possession, confirming Glasgow's victory.
Sale Sharks must bounce back ahead of a journey to face Clermont next Saturday. Meanwhile, Glasgow Warriors will host European giants Toulouse to Scotstoun.
The two sides are drawn in a strong Pool One that also includes Saracens and Durban-based team the Hollywoodbets Sharks.
