Excitement is building for the horror series It: Welcome to Derry, which is garnering praise and incorporating elements from additional King stories. Now, HBO declared that the second installment will premiere ahead of schedule, timed perfectly for Halloween.
Beginning on October 31 at midnight PT, the second episode of It: Welcome to Derry will premiere on HBO Max, ahead of its traditional TV airing. The remaining installments of the eight-episode season will be released on the weekend on both HBO and its streaming arm, culminating in the concluding chapter on the 14th of December.
Based in the Derry mythology, the new series is inspired by the classic book while building upon the universe established by director Andy Muschietti in the recent movie adaptations. The original It focused on young characters battling unimaginable horrors, making it appropriate that the prequel follows in those footsteps. Nevertheless, the first installment of the HBO series demonstrates it aimed to escalate the fear, offering more frightening moments than Muschiettiâs films and creating a dark atmosphere for the rest of the season.
Taking place in the 1960s, the series introduces a new generation of adults and children residing in a seemingly idyllic town hiding a sinister core. This place functions through a brutal, periodic loopâone marked by violence, bigotry, and the supernatural, as a monstrous presence returns once every three decades. Even though the series might appear like it strays too near to the movies at first, what differentiates the HBO Max series is its dual perspectiveâunfolding through the eyes of both children and adults simultaneously. Children stay highly exposed to the entity's fear, but the adults arenât spared dealing with their individual fears born from the town's ingrained prejudice and covert otherworldly powers.
It: Welcome to Derry airs on the 31st of October at 3 a.m. EST.
