Patrick Bamford Joins the Blades Despite Leading Derogatory Chants About Manager Chris Wilder

The striker has signed with Sheffield United only seven months after starting derogatory songs targeting their manager, Wilder.

The 32-year-old striker, without a club after departing from Leeds, has put pen to paper on a deal joining the second-tier strugglers until January. Bamford's seven-year spell with Leeds concluded amicably in August.

One of Bamford’s final notable acts while at Leeds involved leading abusive chants about Chris Wilder during Leeds' success festivities this spring. Now, the one-cap England player is set to play for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to pull the team he loves away from the relegation zone.

Previous History Involving the Striker & the Manager

The pair had previous conflict before Leeds earned promotion to the Premier League the previous campaign and United were defeated in the playoff final by Sunderland. The manager called the forward as ā€œa muppetā€ when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and the Blades secured direct promotion while Leeds United missed out in the playoffs.

Reconciliation and Moving Forward

All seems has been resolved with Sheffield United, the league's least productive attack, urgently requiring of improvement in attack and Bamford aiming to revive his playing days.

The song about Wilder gained traction in April. An apologetic Bamford and the Leeds manager, Farke, called Wilder the next day.

Chris Wilder commented back then: ā€œHad a conversation with Pat recently and I’ve no problem whatsoever with that. I’m not sure about the words used from a fellow professional! However I valued and admired him calling me.

ā€œWe had a short while and the same again I talked with Daniel as well and we had a longer discussion together and he is a great person, a class act. Back in my playing days we used to give it and take it and that’s an integral part of football across all levels, including Sunday league. I've got no problem at all. I am cool with it and I said that to Pat.ā€

Recent Playing Challenges

The forward featured in 18 appearances for Leeds in the previous campaign but the ex- Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC & Boro player has struggled with fitness issues in recent years.
