President Endorses Bill to Release Further Jeffrey Epstein Files Following Period of Resistance

Donald Trump announced on Wednesday night that he had endorsed the measure resoundingly endorsed by American lawmakers that mandates the justice department to disclose more files regarding Jeffrey Epstein, the late pedophile.

This action comes after months of resistance from the president and his supporters in the House and Senate that divided his Maga base and generated conflicts with various established backers.

Donald Trump had opposed making public the related records, calling the issue a "false narrative" and condemning those who wanted to make the documents public, notwithstanding pledging their publication on the election circuit.

But he altered his position in the past few days after it become clear the House of Representatives would endorse the legislation. Donald Trump said: "We have nothing to hide".

It's not clear what the justice department will disclose in as a result of the legislation – the legislation details a range of possible documents that must be released, but includes exemptions for some materials.

The President Endorses Measure to Require Release of Additional Jeffrey Epstein Records

The bill calls for the attorney general to make unclassified related files publicly available "in an easily accessible digital format", encompassing all investigations into Jeffrey Epstein, his associate Ghislaine Maxwell, flight logs and journey documentation, people referenced or named in relation to his illegal activities, institutions that were linked to his human trafficking or money operations, immunity deals and other plea agreements, organizational messages about prosecution choices, documentation of his imprisonment and demise, and particulars about possible record elimination.

The department will have 30 days to turn over the files. The bill provides for some exceptions, including redactions of personal details of victims or personal files, any representations of child sexual abuse, releases that would jeopardize current examinations or prosecutions and depictions of death or mistreatment.
