The Queensland capital isn't a place that offers England crucial hope for the Ashes

In the wake of losing to Australia at the series start, the visiting team have to bounce back for a trip to the Gabba, a venue where the English haven't triumphed for over thirty years

Players representing England have habitually been lambs to the slaughter at the Gabbatoir

Cook's Memorable Success

Throughout modern times of English disappointments, hopes and athletes is a source of inspiration achieved by an exceptional player

This marks the 15th anniversary of the legendary Cook conquered the Gabba with a career-defining 235 not out, preserving the initial Test from the 2010-11 series paving England's path toward their sole series victory in Australia during recent memory

Historic Achievement

It was the beginning of Cook's triumphant tour of Australia; three centuries and 766 runs

Cricket great Hammond is the only Englishman with higher run totals throughout a campaign in this country

Victory came 3-1, with every win through innings victories

England hasn't achieved success at this venue since that memorable series

Cook's Memories

"People overlook the difficult moments, the apprehension and concern that went into that," Cook recalls

"With pride I remember. My contribution was substantial during a campaign where England triumphed 3-1 in Australia and all three games came through innings wins"

Path to Success

Cook's road to his Australian epic commenced well before at the end of that year's Ashes in England

Though England triumphed, the opener averaged less than 25 managing only one innings above 50

He desired better

"Despite cricket's collective nature, personal performance creates the sensation like you want to pull your weight," he states

Game Improvement

Shortly after the triumphant events, he was back facing countless deliveries in practice under Graham Gooch's guidance

The initial results showed promise

The batsman achieved three hundreds on the 2009-10 winter tours against South African and Bangladeshi teams

Career-Defining Moments

When Cook returned to home soil during the 2010 season, the batsman struggled significantly

In eight innings facing these opponents, his highest score was 29

On nought not out at the end of the second day of the third Test facing Pakistan at The Oval, Cook believed he was playing his final Test performance prior to selection

"There I was in the hospitality area, attempting to discover the resolution through drinking," he reveals

Critical Moment

The 110-run innings secured his place for the Australian tour

The team maintained preparations with two victories and one draw in practice matches down under

Come the first Test at the Gabba, they encountered three wickets from Siddle

Memorable Collaboration

Just before the end of the third day, both batsmen began England's second batting effort with a deficit of 221 runs

They reached 19-0 by day's end and followed up with an exhibition etched in Ashes folklore

"I don't remember specific guidance, anything of what we spoke about," Cook remembers

Both left-handed batsmen contributed 188 together

His unbeaten 235 represented the top score achieved by a Briton on Australian soil in eight decades

Complete Control

England capitalised on an astonishing first morning of the second Test in South Australia

After Anderson also dismissed the opposition player, Australia were 2-3 and struggled throughout

The batsman proceeded his Queensland achievement with 148 in a Test remembered featuring Pietersen's destruction of the opposition bowlers

The Final Triumph

Victory was possible the urn in Perth, only for Mitchell Johnson to indicate the trouble he would cause four years later

What followed was perhaps England's single greatest day during Ashes competition down under

At the MCG, the enormous ground of sports down under, during Boxing Day, the hosts collapsed to 98 all out

"For ideal Boxing Days, it was that. Incredulity reigned at the end of the day," Cook remembers

The Final Victory

Driven by determination to claim victory, Cook was at it again at the SCG

His score of 189 helped England reach 644, their best score on Australian soil

The debate didn't concern if victory would come both match and urn, but the timing

"The atmosphere was incredible," says Cook

"After Tremlett dismissed the final batsman to secure victory, it was a moment of absolute joy"

Legacy and Recognition

The batsman received top accolades

The remaining seven years of his Test career featured further accomplishments

Following his international retirement, Cook was knighted for cricket contributions
